Sometimes it's easy to think that the issues with magic these days are localized to one area, and that maybe if you just moved away all the problems would be gone, too. I received an owl today from Nadia some co-workers just outside of Al Bawiti telling me about a bad run-in they had with a Sphinx. The poor creature couldn't remember the answers to her own riddles, and when approached with an offering she went mad and attacked them. They subdued the beast for now; it's hard to say if she's suffering and whether or not she should be put out of her misery. It's a harsh reminder that magic isn't just disappearing in Britain -- it's all over the world, and witches and wizards aren't the only ones it's affecting.
